Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran who dominated every aspect of the country for more than three decades as it faced off with the West, was killed on February 28 after the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, according to US President Donald Trump and later confirmed by Iranian state media. He was 86.
“This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS,” Trump wrote in a social media post. Later, Iranian state media said that Khamenei was killed at his office on Saturday where he "was carrying out his assigned duties", Reuters reported. Iran has announced 40 days of public mourning.
